English Teacher in Saigon, Vietnam

English Teacher in Saigon, Vietnam.

I am an English Teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, south-east Asia. I teach at elementary, kindergarten (primary), high schools, cafes, centers, houses, parks, in the different districts. I peddle my bicycle to get from place to place. I do not have or desire a motor-bike. I attend a Vietnamese Bible-reading church. I teach them English. I live in district Binh Thanh, HCM.

Cool Kid in 1999

Cool Kid in 1999.

I was playing basketball at our park, which is a few houses from my house, or I mean trailer. This is in my neighborhood, the Rose Grove, in Forest Grove, Oregon USA. I was playing with white-skin Randy, Joe, and brown-skin Hispanic Elder. It started raining. I slid in the rain with my sneakers but I made some shots. They would call me kid. They would see me do things and they would say cool. I was a kid. I was cool. You put the two words together and that is what they started calling me. Either Randy or Elder named me the Cool Kid. Later I would have other nicknames like Ghetto Joe, Joe Dirt, Tweety, Joe Cool. Randy, his brother Joe, and Elder did drugs sometimes. They may have went to jail a few times, or I am not sure.

Family Trip to Warrenton

Family Trip to Warrenton.

My dad drove me and the rest of the family to Warrenton, Oregon USA, so we could see our aunt and uncle, Karen and Jim Williams, and their kids, Nathan and Allan. This may have been the year that my dad drove us the long way, through Tillamook, which took around four hours instead of an hour or two. My mom had to go to the bathroom. She could not hold it. We went to a lake with our relatives. We went to the beach. Later, dad drove me and our family to the Astoria Columns (a tower on top of a hill) in Astoria, Oregon USA. I got lost there when I was 10 years old or so. This was one of our last trips together as a family besides maybe the year 2004 or 2005 or so.
