Hiking Mount St. Helens

Hiking Mount St. Helens.

I would hang out with my best adult-hood friend Matthew Thomas Kurtz. I would go to his house. We would play Star Craft, War Craft, Risk, Settlers, Chess, Checkers, Mario, Nintendo, Playstation 3, Magic (card game), and watch movies and shows. We would make videos. We would have many adventures. I miss those good old days.

On one Monday, the 23rd of April 2012, me, Matt, Danny Magna, Mario, and Mikey, rode in Danny's or Mario's car to Mount St. Helen. Matt lives in Vancouver, Washington USA. It took a few hours, even while speeding, to get to the mountain. I had my camcorder. I took some video. Matt turned some of those videos into photos. You can find them on his Facebook (FB). We had some fun while hiking trails for some hours but we did not climb up the mountain. We did not really go up at all. We did see some snow and skiers.

Basketball Counselor

Basketball Counselor

I was a counselor coach for children, ages 7 - 13 years old, in April & May of the year 2011 when I was 26 years old. We would meet at the Salvation Army's Moore Street Corps church in Portland, Oregon USA Friday nights for about 2 hours and each Saturday from around 8 - 10 AM, or so.

I guided my dozen or so of kids to the different activities. There were basketball drills, games. We had snack time, games, and other activities.

2011 Tōhoku Earthquake & Tsunami

The 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake & Tsunami occurred 14:46 JST (Japan Standard Time), as in 2:46 PM, on Friday, the 11th of March of the year 2011.

I was on my computer, in my room, in the house of Charlotte Battle, in PDX, when this was happening, and I asked people on Facebook if they thought Hawaii or even Oregon was going to get flooded.

After seeing disaster films, it makes you wonder.

The 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tōhoku (東北地方太平洋沖地震 Tōhoku-chihō Taiheiyō Oki Jishin?), often referred to in Japan as the Great East Japan Earthquake (東日本大震災 Higashi nihon daishinsai?)[8][9][10][fn 1] and also known as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake,[11] and the 3.11 Earthquake, was a magnitude 9.0 (Mw) undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred at 14:46 JST (05:46 UTC) on Friday 11 March 2011,[2][3][12] with the epicentre approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tōhoku and the hypocenter at an underwater depth of approximately 30 km (19 mi).[2][13] It was the most powerful known earthquake ever to have hit Japan, and the fifth most powerful earthquake in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900.[12][14][15] The earthquake triggered powerful tsunami waves that reached heights of up to 40.5 metres (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku's Iwate Prefecture,[16][17] and which, in the Sendai area, travelled up to 10 km (6 mi) inland.[18] The earthquake moved Honshu (the main island of Japan) 2.4 m (8 ft) east and shifted the Earth on its axis by estimates of between 10 cm (4 in) and 25 cm (10 in).[19][20][21]

On 12 September 2012, a Japanese National Police Agency report confirmed 15,883 deaths,[22] 6,145 injured,[23] and 2,667 people missing[24] across twenty prefectures, as well as 129,225 buildings totally collapsed, with a further 254,204 buildings 'half collapsed', and another 691,766 buildings partially damaged.[25] The earthquake and tsunami also caused extensive and severe structural damage in north-eastern Japan, including heavy damage to roads and railways as well as fires in many areas, and a dam collapse.[18][26] Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said, "In the 65 years after the end of World War II, this is the toughest and the most difficult crisis for Japan."[27] Around 4.4 million households in northeastern Japan were left without electricity and 1.5 million without water.[28]

The tsunami caused nuclear accidents, primarily the level 7 meltdowns at three reactors in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant complex, and the associated evacuation zones affecting hundreds of thousands of residents.[29][30] Many electrical generators were taken down, and at least three nuclear reactors suffered explosions due to hydrogen gas that had built up within their outer containment buildings after cooling system failure. Residents within a 20 km (12 mi) radius of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and a 10 km (6.2 mi) radius of the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant were evacuated. In addition, the U.S. recommended that its citizens evacuate up to 80 km (50 mi) of the plant.[31]

Early estimates placed insured losses from the earthquake alone at US$14.5 to $34.6 billion.[32] The Bank of Japan offered ¥15 trillion (US$183 billion) to the banking system on 14 March in an effort to normalize market conditions.[33] The World Bank's estimated economic cost was US$235 billion, making it the costliest natural disaster in world history.[34][35]

How I Met Your Mother

I started watching the TV show series How I Met Your Mother on Saturday, the 24th of the month of July of the year 2010, shortly after working at Camp Redwood Glen in Scotts Valley, California, United States.

I was renting a room from a friend, Charlotte Battle, in Portland, from the last week of July 2010 until the early parts of June of 2011.

Battle introduced me to another show called Criminal Minds.

She let me watch movies that were memorable.

I learned much from her.

She is a great friend that knows how to listen.

She has a huge heart.

I moved into her house Saturday, the 24th of July 2010.

Party at the Campbells

Party at the Campbells.

After Blake Edwards Webb died on Sunday: the 2nd of May 2010, I moved in with the family of Jackie and Bruce and Maggie and the brothers Cambells in Portland, Oregon USA. I lived at their house until the day I hopped on an Amtrak train to be a Relief Counselor & Program Staff at the Salvation Army's Camp Redwood Glen in Scotts Valley, California USA. A few days before going, Charlotte Battle let me pack my things from my apartment room 414 in the Alder Housing Apartment: 523 Alder: Portland, OR USA, or the address is something like that. I was able to pack my bags into her van and we stored them at The Salvation Army's Moore Street Corps church. After camp, we took my stuff into her house in PDX. I lived with Charlotte from July 2010 until June 2011 when I moved back in with my dad, where I was born and raised at 163 Rose Grove, Forest Grove, Oregon USA.

At the Campbells, we saw movies in the big screen. We watched the sitcom TV show the Big Bang Theory. We would play Wii video games, especially Donkey Kong and the New Adventures of the Mario Brothers where you can play four players at the same time.

Blake Webb Died

I met Blake Edwards Webb during my first summer of the year of 2007 working as a Wilderness Counselor at The Salvation Army's Camp Kuratli, in Boring, Oregon USA. I worked here the summers of 2007 and 2008.

I served on missions team (funded by The Salvation Army) with him in Hawaii. I landed in Hawaii on Friday, the 31st of August 2007. I was there for 9 months.

I reunited with Webb, as he moved from California to Portland, Oregon to be the youth pastor at the Salvation Army church (corps) called Moore Street Corps in August of 2011. Before, I was not much of a friend, but we started becoming best friends in 2011. I helped him with youth activities and even acted in the children Christmas play at their church in 2011.

I stayed the night at his house Saturday night during the Basketball Tournament at Moore Street. I was helping Webb with sorting the shirts to pass to the players, and we were playing on a team as well.

Saturday night, we talked about my younger sister, about Megan McQuade, about video games, and I fell asleep on the couch in the basement at his house in Portland, Oregon USA. He fell asleep before I did and I thought I heard him struggle with breathing as he slept but I did nothing.

In the morning, I woke up and had some snacks and waited. I was upset because I think we were going to be late for the last day of the basketball tournament, but not that it matters since we were already defeated yesterday.

The owner of the house came home and did not know who I was. I told him I was friends with Blake. I knocked on the door of Blake's room, in the basement, but was not answered by the voice of Blake. I opened the door and saw a lifeless Webb on the bottom bunk of his bed. I told the owner man who immediately called 911. I was not able to perform CPR or mouth to mouth on a bouncing bunk bed with springs.

I did not pull him off his bed in fear of being accused of murdered.

Sunday, the 2nd of May of the year 2010.

By Joey Arnold, the Original Oatmeal.

About the death of my friend Blake Edwards Webb.

In Portland, Oregon, United States.

They say Webb was having small heart attacks.

I wrote about his death in details, which inspired concern in others.

People thought I needed medical attention and professional help.

Only a few confronted me while others did not even say a word to me.

I was not even asked to speak at his funeral or other events.

Ronnie Gilden hugged me briefly.

Michael Kurtz remarked about how I was still calm. Maybe he thought that I may have been like Dexter, a serial killer who also is calm in the mist of violence as well.

The Last House On The Left

When I visited Lincoln Hawk in Long Beach, California, United States, we went to see in the cinema the action-pack gore-filled The Last House On The Left. It was surreal and scary and Lincoln wasn't happy about seeing it. Somebody must have told him that it was so great but maybe not so much.

Animals Are Dying

Animals Are Dying.

I wrote and sang and played on guitar the song Animals Are Dying during the 2nd or so week of April 2009 after spending around 10 days with Lincoln Hawk in Long Beach, California USA.

I wrote this song for the Fur Protesters who march and shout and chant and yell with signs in front of a fur shop in Portland, Oregon USA, just blocks from my apartment.

Months later, one of those guys allegedly sets himself on fire in protest, to get publicity towards the awareness that animals are skinned alive.

Katie Gives Me a Guitar

Katie Gives Me a Guitar

This was for my birthday, the 11th of February 2009, when I was turning 24 years old. My older sister, Katie Jean Arnold, got me a black round-back guitar, that actually came from the then-boyfriend Forest. I think I had duct-tape on my glasses at that time. I met Katie and my younger sister Crystal at a café in Portland, OR USA. Forest was there this time, I believe. In April, I write and perform on guitar the song Animals Are Dying.

Woof Died

My uncle, Jimmy Williams, AKA the Woof, died on or around Wednesday, the 6th of August of the year 2008 in his home in Warrenton or in Portland, Oregon, USA.

After Revolution Hawaii and Camp Kuratli, I was spending a week at WYI (Western Youth Institute) at Camp Arnold near Seattle, Washington USA, which is a 7-days-long young adults retreat for those associated with The Salvation Army in and around the west coast of the United States. Around 300 people attend annually.

My friend, Lincoln Hawk, suggested that I move to Long Beach, California USA. I first met Lincoln the previous year at WYI 2007 at Camp Redwood Glen in Scotts Valley, California USA.

In 2007, I started getting close to Lincoln, or it at least felt that way. His then-wife (in 2007) suggested that I move to Long Beach (LB), California (CA). From August 2007 to June 2008, I was in Hawaii, but I would talk to Lincoln on the phone, and he visited me and the team (Revolution Hawaii) on my birthday in 2008, and Lincoln suggested that I became the Youth Pastor Assistance at his Salvation Army corps (church) in Long Beach (since Lincoln is the Youth Pastor and Worship Leader, and other things as well, there).

Lincoln would talk in general terms with me, like in code, and it sounded like he was saying that he would get me to Long Beach in August of 2008, find me a job, and get me a place to live.

Lincoln got his friend, Jeanette Whitaker, to talk to me on the phone daily. She was in his youth group and she would call me daily. She started liking me until I accidentally called her ugly.

At WYI, in August 2008, Lincoln was basically telling me no, but not in those exact words, except that he was trying to say that I failed the many tests since he had spies in Hawaii that were reporting everything that I was doing to him. It seems that I failed the tests, which disabled me from joining him in Long Beach, California.

I had no backup.

In December 2007, or before June 2008, I was able to talk to my uncle, Jimmy "The Woof" Williams on my mobile cell phone that I inherited from younger sister. Jim was proud of me and he donated about $50 USD or $200, since I was in need of financial support to pay for my nine months charity missions trip in Hawaii.

That was my last conversation with Jim.

It was a worthy conversation that I will not forget.

I had no backup plan. I was simply going to go to Long Beach, California in August of 2008, but I guess that never happened, and Lincoln may have been saying that it is my fault, but his marriage was also falling apart, since he ended up divorcing and/or separating in 2009.

Therefore, I was at a cross-roads or fork in the road.

I felt uncertain about my future during the summer of 2008.

When I heard that Jim died, it went with the flow of how I already felt inside, which was a bunch of this and that, which means that the death did not sting me because I was already emotionally numb at that point of time.

My mother and her then-husband Mr./Mrs. Bill Williams Cunningham (since he did have alternative male and female personalities, but he is male) picked me up in his van on Thursday evening, the 8th of August 2008.

I did not say bye to people, as I left WYI.

Our planned family reunion in Warrenton, Seaside, and Astoria, Oregon, turned into a funeral for Jim. We were able to reunite with my 2 sisters (not my brother or my dad), uncle Brian Morehead and his family, the wife of Jim, Karen, and their 2 sons, Nathan and Alan, and their families, and my mother's parents, and other relatives. We went to the beach, to Karen's house, to Astoria Columns, too I think, to the graveyard, to a church, and other places as well.

Alan drove me in his truck to my dad's trailer, which is where I was born and raised in Forest Grove, Oregon.

until I moved into former apartment of my younger sister in Portland, Oregon, USA, in October of 2008, as I was working as an after-school assistant at the Daniel Grout Elementary School and the Kells Irish Restaurant in PDX.

In October 2008, my grandfather, the father of my mother, Dick Richard Morehead, died, and we had another funeral and reunion in November, this time including my brother Rick Schuylar Arnold, and his wife, Maria, in Portland and Warrenton as well.

The Cook At Camp Kuratli

The Cook At Camp Kuratli.

He was actually an assistant cook, or a substitute cook. He said that he knew Lincoln Hawk. This man was around 27 years old in the year 2008. This was my second time working at Camp Kuratli. I also worked there in 2007. Before that, I worked at other camps during the years of 2005, 2006, and 2010.

He said that him and Lincoln go back to like 5th grade or something. This cook was only a few years old than me. in 2008, I turned 23 years old. I do not know how old this cook was but he was taller and bigger than me which makes me think he was older.

He was fun to talk to. He was enthusiastic and full of energy. I have never seen him since, that is after camp that year of 2008. He was staying in a room across the hall from me. During the weekdays, I was a Wilderness Counselor with my co-counselors out under tarps with campers in the woods but we had weekends off, and we were given rooms to sleep in during weekends.

This cook told me I could go in his room and play on his Nintendo Game Cube (video-game machine console). I spent all day every Saturday and Sunday usually playing the Game Cube version of Paper Mario (video-game). I think I got close to the end of the game but then it was the end of the summer.

The second summer here was missing Jeff Walters, Blake Webb, my sister Crystal, Seth, and possibly others that are dear to me, but there were things about 2008 that were unique and special that I will never forget, including the climbing wall that I think was not there in 2007 yet.

Wilderness Counselor

My sister inspired me to apply at Camp Kuratli of Trestle Glen in Boring, Oregon. The application landed in the lap of Michael Kurtz in 2007, and he became one of my best friends to this day.

He liked how I drew myself in the application, since one of his questions is about drawing yourself, and he allowed me to be a wilderness counselor during the summers of the years of 2007 and 2008 at The Salvation Army's Camp Kuratli.

One of my favorite summers were those 2 years.

My camp name was Oatmeal in 2007.

In 2008, my nick name was the Ice Breaker.

Mike called me Ice Man, because he was Maverick from the film Top Gun.

He called me his right-winged man.

Donald Kamese

Donald Kamese told me that if you are dating a girl, take her to "Bull-fighting" because she will think it is so romantic. This Donald Duck was born in Africa, lived in Europe, and even went on to be a missionary in Mexico.

I met him during my first year working as a wilderness counselor at the Salvation Army's Camp Kuratli of Trestle Glen in Boring, Oregon, United States.

He went on to write a book called Mission Possible.

Free Geek

Free Geek.

My mom may have called Free Geek back in the year 2000 or so. Back in that year or around that time, a van came to our trailer in Forest Grove. They picked up some of our electronics, so that they could recycle our junk. Some of the people were children around 8 to 16 years old and there may have been a woman and other adults. It may have been a family. They may have been volunteers of Free Geek or another organization.

After flying from my second college in West Virginia to my home in Oregon in early May 2007, I think my mother insisted that I hop on a bus heading to Portland, Oregon. Before leaving my college in West Virginia, I bought a laptop for $50 from my friend Matt Manehan. He could have asked for $2,000. It was a good laptop. I looked up the address for Free Geek. I would try to find wifi at the Pacific University and library and I was able to find free wifi while in my room in my trailer that I was raised in, you know, in Forest Grove.

When I made it to Portland, I got lost because I was kind of going the wrong direction and it was hot sunny day, but I made it and took a tour and eventually began volunteering and going through their programs. You learn how to recycle and take apart computers, printers, and other electronics. Later, I began learning how to build computers. The 5 computer you can take home with you for free.

In June, I went to Camp Kuratli to be a Wilderness Counselor. After that, I attended my first Western Youth Institute (WYI) at the Camp Redwood Glen in Scotts Valley, California USA, and WYI is a week-long young-adults retreat for those associate with The Salvation Army.

During the second or so week of August 2007, I started returning to Free Geek, and one day, as I was going there, as I was walking, Lincoln Hawk called my cell phone (which was my first mobile phone ever that I got May 2007, which was my sisters or Jesse's or my dad's or Savannah Larson, or somebody). I never gave him my number. I met Lincoln at WYI. That was the first WYI I ever attended. I also attended WYI in 2008 and 2010 at Camp Arnold in Washington (state) USA.

Lincoln suggested that I call Rob Noland. I had an application to apply for Revolution Hawaii but I already threw that away. I ended up filling out an application on my laptop. I talked to Rob on the phone. I emailed Rob the application. The deadline was already passed. The team members are suppose to fly to Hawaii in the next 3 or so days. I was accepted on like a Wednesday and I made it into Hawaii Friday, which was like the 31st of August 2007. Rob told me that he wouldn't have let Crazy Oatmeal join RevHI but Joey Arnold could. When I talked to Rob on the phone, Rob was only able to hear the voice of Joey. I did not talk to Rob at WYI, except to compare him to pancakes and apple-sauce, or something, which he thought was crazy that I do things like that.

While I was in Hawaii, I sent a letter to Free Geek.

In October or so of 2008, when I started going back to Free Geek, they told me that they got my letter. I was kind of popular. I could not tell how they felt about it, since most of them seem to be not Christians. I eventually made my 5th box that I was able to take home. Like the next year or so, I made a second take-home box that I was able to take home as well. I think I only took home only 2 computers. You are allowed to take home one computer per twelve months. I met people here that are interesting people. You can get free coffee, bread, snacks, here, as well. You can learn many things here.

They do not use Microsoft Windows here.

They use Linux's Ubuntu (Operating-System: OS).
